Zero to One with Kanban method at CEMEX – Start from where you are, and do not copy other’s way of working.
CEMEX is one of the largest building material producers in the world. A few years back CEMEX committed to lead the industry’s digital transformation, with the objective to provide a superior customer experience. As many non-digital native companies, CEMEX had to learn and adapt to the new world. It had to look inward to its culture and how it manages its work. CEMEX had to also look outward to new and innovative services it can provide to its customers across the globe. This was and is not an easy journey. It requires strong leadership and dedication as well as right talent at all levels of the organisation.
Daniel is one of those dedicated leaders within CEMEX Process and IT division. He and his team are responsible for deploying and adapting digital solutions to CEMEX regional employees as well as end customers. They handle multi projects at the same time from various locations and time zones, delivering projects to more than 20 countries around the world. Each region or country may have its own unique challenges, regulations, laws and limitations. A pilar of the company is the ONE CEMEX value, the challenge for the Processes and IT division was and is to maintain a single model across the world, while adapting to the different countries local market needs.
Such a complexity caused some dissatisfaction at Daniel’s team and also for their customers (internal and external). Daniel with his team decided to do something about it last year. They partnered with Kaveh (Lean/Kanban Coach and Trainer working with CEMEX Globally) to start learning about Kanban method and using its principles and practices in designing their way of working. They took advantage of Kanban Maturity Model (beta release) to guide them through the adoption and appropriateness of practices, and evolution of their culture.
This presentation is about their journey until today and their plan for the future, within CEMEX Digital Transformation.
